GARRA BJJ for Adults

Our adults BJJ classes are for people 16 years and older, they are mixed belts from white through black, you will often be paired to someone of your own size and skill level.

Ladies only classes are also at our gym.

There are many reasons to start BJJ, people may start for fitness, confidence, competition and self defence, it is also a great place to socialise.

What to expect

Our classes generally start with a warm up, followed by a demonstration of technique, which will then be practised, and finished up with a roll and a stretch.

Be sure to bring a drink and towel to class.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is BJJ?

BJJ is a combat sport and martial art where the practitioners attempt to gain positional advantage over their opponent in order to eventually apply a submission (usually in the form of a choke or joint lock). BJJ is a grappling sport, which means we do not train with strikes.

I'm unfit, will i be able to train?

Yes. Each person has their own fitness levels and ability, listen to your body and go at your own pace.

BJJ is an excellent full body workout! Many of our members have lost an incredible amount of weight training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

What will I need to start training BJJ?

You will need a BJJ gi (kimono) and a belt to train. These can be purchased at the gym.

We recommend that you wear a rashguard underneath the gi jacket as well.

We train barefoot and don’t wear shoes on the mats. So thongs or sandals are handy to have to walk around the place.

Make sure to bring your water bottle and a towel.

Personal protection such as mouthguards are recommended.

Am i too old to start Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

If your body is willing and able, there are no barriers to start learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

How long does it take to earn a black belt?

On average, 10 to 12 years, the more you train the faster it will be.

Do you offer a trial?

Yes! You can have a casual 1 week membership for $32 for as many lessons as you like. You may also have a free trial if you book via the website or by calling Jason on 0404 186 683

If you would like to book via the website, please create an account first, then head to the BOOKING link in the main menu located under MEMBERS.
